Potash Hill has limited single and double occupancy dorm rooms available. Weekend participants can choose to stay in a dorm, tent onsite, or sleep offsite and commute. The cost is the same for all options.
Dorms are first-come, first-served, determined by the date both your registration and payment have been received. Dorm registrations (including $75 deposit checks) are due no later than one week before other registrations to ensure time for dorm assignments.
The Romp is using four residence halls: Half Way, All the Way, Happy Valley, and New Dorm. Sleeping in buildings is allowed ONLY in dorm rooms (not hallways or common areas).
All dorm buildings are mixed-gender. Dorm room assignments will be same-gender unless otherwise specified.
Single capacity rooms can have only one sleeper in them. Double capacity rooms can have only two sleepers in them.
There are a limited number of ADA-accessible dorm rooms available by request.
September nights can be chilly in Vermont. Bedding and pillows are NOT provided. Please bring your own, including more than enough warm layers.
Beds have twin XL size mattresses. All beds are on the floor (no bunks). The mattresses are very sturdy, which makes them reliably insect-proof and water-proof. But many people prefer a softer mattress. We recommend bringing a camp pad or soft mattress topper for a more comfortable experience.
Dorm keys will be distributed at Check-In on Friday between 4-5:30 pm.
Dorm keys must be returned at Check-Out on Sunday between 5:30-6:00 pm.
Please keep your room key around your neck on its lanyard at all times (unless you are sleeping). There is a mandatory charge of $75 for any key that is not returned by Sunday.
If you are staying in a dorm and arriving late or leaving early, you must make advance arrangements to pick up or return your key during a scheduled meal time.
To receive your dorm key at check-in, you must mail us a separate check in advance for $75 for each key. Checks must be written out to "SVTM", mailed to RJR Keys c/o SVTM, 1279 Hinesburg Road, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
This check will be returned to you uncashed when you return your key to us at the end of the Romp on Sunday.
If your key is not returned onsite before the end of the Romp on Sunday, your check WILL be cashed and used to cover Potash Hill's cost of re-coring the lock. If you end up not staying in a dorm room, your uncashed check will be returned to you.
If you are staying in the New Dorm, your door will lock automatically behind you whenever you leave your room. Whenever you leave your room, especially in the middle of the night, always bring your key with you.
If you are in Half Way, All the Way, or Happy Valley, note the doorknob thumb-turn (the nib that is on the inside doorknob). When it is vertical, it pops out when you turn the knob and the door unlocks. When it is horizontal, the door remains locked when the door is closed. If you want the door to remain unlocked, you must put the thumb-turn in the vertical position, then turn the knob so it pops out.
A room lock-out is not considered an emergency. If you lock yourself out of your room, the following people have a primary key that will open your door. But we may not be able to do this during workshops or Romp gatherings, so you would need to wait until we are available:
New Dorm - Peter Siegel (413-320-2729)
Half Way & All The Way - Louisa Engle (802-579-5748)
Happy Valley - Amanda Witman (802-689-9181)
We are responsible for cleaning up after ourselves. If something needs attention, please take care of it yourself if you can, or alert Amanda, Louisa, or Peter if you need help.
Please keep bathrooms and kitchens clean. The campus has a septic system, so please flush only toilet paper. Put anything else in the trash (even if it says “flushable”).
On Sunday afternoon, leave your room as clean as when you arrived. Return all dishes to the Dining Hall and place your trash and compost in the main receptacles.
