The all-inclusive registration fee includes:
Because there is limited capacity, the pricing is set for the full weekend and there is no discount for missing meals or sleeping offsite. However, there are other options if you can't come for the whole weekend. Day Passes are available for Saturday or Sunday. Or come just for a Concert-Dinner-Dance combo on Saturday afternoon and evening. Or come to an Evening Dance on Saturday or Sunday (by donation no registration needed). Or, if you are a Marlboro community member, we have a special Sunday afternoon offer for you!
Yes! If you need financial aid to attend the Romp, let us know. We do our very best to make participation possible for everyone. In past years we have been able to make it work out for everyone who needed it. More info is here.
No, but hear us out: We get it, we do! We know from our own experience as parents that it can be challenging or impossible to afford to bring a whole family to a premium event. So, with that in mind...
Our financial aid policy is the same for all ages. We do not offer a family discount or age-specific pricing for weekend or day participants. We do our best to make financial assistance possible for every single participant who needs it. If you need it, ask!
Yes! Register here for a Day Pass.
Full weekend registrations will be given priority if capacity becomes an issue, but we should be able to fit everyone in! Pricing is as follows:
Overnighting is available only for full-weekend participants.
If what you're looking for is a full-blown dance weekend, this is not that. But if you want some dancing with your jamming, some romping with your singing, and a lot of fun variety in your weekend, you will have it!
Our idea of a weekend-long romp includes dancing both evenings from after dinner until about 10:00 pm. See the Schedule and Workshops pages for more info on specific dance details and offerings.
We feature family-friendly, community style dancing on Friday night, and focus more on contras, squares, and similar dancing on Saturday night. Our all-star staff includes a wealth of experience playing and calling for contradances and other types of dancing.
You can come for just an Evening Dance if you choose, with no pre-registration required. Dancing begins at 7:30 on Fri and Sat nights and lasts about two hours or so. Pay at the door and join the fun!
Yes! If you live in the area and would rather sleep in your own bed, or if you prefer another local place to sleep, that is totally fine. The cost of participation is the same whether you sleep onsite or offsite, and there is no discount for missed meals. Please let us know in advance if you will be sleeping offsite so we can coordinate parking to be sure you can get in and out.
We do our best to offer workshops on a variety of instruments at a range of experience levels in multiple genres. Each year, our workshops are designed to make the best use of our staff's strengths for that year. We try to include something for everyone, from brand-new beginners to experienced players. In past years, we have offered workshops covering various elements of singing, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, pennywhistle, flute, piano, accordion, concertina, percussion, and cello/bass. See our Workshops page for more information.
If you want to offer a class, workshop, jam, kid activity, or other fun thing that isn't on our agenda, please contact us well in advance about what you want to offer. We'll consider case-by-case whether it fits into our programming plan for that year. Although creative workshop offers from participants are welcome, they do not represent work exchange if accepted.
Potash Hill is an absolutely beautiful spot in idyllic Marlboro, Vermont, roughly 20 minutes outside of Brattleboro. Potash Hill is the new incarnation of the old Marlboro College campus, which has a long history of hosting musical events, and we are thrilled to have been part of their annual lineup since 2023.
Yes, if you come prepared to make your own! Please bring a blank t-shirt, bag, patch, or another blank fabric item to print on. Our friend John Shaw, a talented screen printing artist, will be with us on Saturday to help with a fun, artsy DIY workshop featuring our fabulous logo by artist Satya Moses.
T-shirt printing will happen during the second scheduled workshop slot on Saturday, and again during a workshop slot on Saturday.
There will also be a limited number of blank and preprinted shirts available for purchase in men's and women's sizes.
As you know, our region is incredibly (almost unbelievably!) rich in accomplished musicians. We have more than enough staff-level friends and neighbors to fill many years of Romp rosters, but unfortunately, we can highlight only a limited number of staff each year. That said, we hope to be doing this for years and years, so do let us know if you are interested.
We hope you will join us as a participant so you can see for yourself what the Romp is all about. Our philosophy is about community members of all experience levels coming together to connect and learn together through engagement with our local music and dance traditions. It is our goal to create an experience that is satisfying and valuable for everyone.
We also invite past staff members to join us in future years as participants. Where teachers can be learners, and learners can be teachers, we strengthen our community as we learn and grow together.
